Syniverse to Expand Global Messaging Connectivity for India's BSNL

TAMPA, Fla. --(Business Wire)--

Syniverse today announced a new multiyear agreement with Bharat Sanchar Limited Nigam (BSNL (News - Alert)), one of the leading telecommunication companies in India, to implement the Syniverse SMS Interoperability Solution to provide BSNL's subscribers with greater mobile messaging reach.

"BSNL is dedicated to serving its subscribers by leveraging technology to provide affordable and innovative telecom services," said Shri Anupam Shrivastava, Director, Consumer Mobility, BSNL Board. "Working with Syniverse (News - Alert), we will optimize our messaging system to ensure our subscribers receive the highest level of reliability and excellent service on par with global telecom operators. BSNL is making focused efforts and planned initiatives to bridge the rural-urban digital divide in the ICT sector. In fact BSNL is one of the only telecom operators in India with the reach and wide network delivering services in every nook and corner of the country."

Syniverse's SMS Interoperability Solution enables mobile operators to rapidly establish interworking relationships with other MNOs using just one network configuration, one testing process, one financial arrangement and one contract. New SMS destinations automatically become available as they connect to the Syniverse SMS Hub, either directly or through peering agreements. The routing of SMS messages also includes mobile number portability and routing capabilities for a range of GSM, CDMA and TDMA networks.

"Global reach has become a critical component of any operator's SMS service, but establishing separate bilaterl relationships among the world's approximately 1,000 mobile operators would be costly, complex and time consuming," said Sanjay Kasturia, Vice President and Managing Director, Sales, India, Syniverse. "Syniverse's SMS Interoperability Solution provides a comprehensive solution for MNOs to address this, and this will enable BSNL to sign a single agreement to connect to numerous MNOs worldwide instead of multiple individual commercial agreements to establish those connections."

Syniverse's agreement with BSNL builds on its recent momentum in India. More than 30 operators and enterprises in India rely on Syniverse for a variety of solutions to make mobile work for their end users. In addition, Syniverse continues to support the Government of India's Department of Telecom mobile number portability initiative in Zone 1 across 11 circles, including New Delhi and Mumbai.
