Sweeheart Cupcakes moves to new location

PLAINFIELD, Feb 28, 2013 (Hendricks County Flyer - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- The little cupcake shop in Plainfield now has a bigger place to make some of the tastiest goodies in town. Sweetheart Cupcakes re-opened its doors at 212 E. Main St. just before Valentine's Day.

The shop is owned by Nancy Muller and her father-in-law, Michael Muller. It was open at its old location for 14 months when they decided to move.

"My lease was up and we knew we needed a bigger kitchen," Nancy Muller said. "The old kitchen was teeny tiny. We were so ready to move." Sweetheart Cupcakes has five part-time employees. The staff can create up to 70 different flavors of cupcakes. They also make cookies and offer ice cream.

"We're still coming up with more flavors," Muller said. "We've had so much fun coming up with them." Muller said she loves all aspects of the business.

"I love baking and decorating," she said. "I also love getting to know everybody that comes in the shop. The small business community in Plainfield is also great." An easy way to spot the new shop is the company's bright blue and pink van out front.

"We added the truck in November," she said. "It's been a lot of fun. It's our moving billboard." Right now, they can only visit places in Hendricks County because of the type of license they have.

"We've just been asking our Facebook friends where we should go," Muller said. "Then we call and ask it it's OK if we come. We can't wait to use the van for the local festivals." She said her husband, Jesse, was using the van one night to pick up supplies for the new facility when he noticed a lot of people honking and waving at him.

"He realized they were laughing and happy to see the Sweetheart Cupcakes sign," she said. "People really seem to like it. It's been a lot of fun." Muller has auditioned for the television show "Cupcake Wars" but has not heard if their shop will be on the show. The video may be viewed on YouTube.

"The video is pretty corny," she said. "But they told us to make it memorable." The shop is open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. They will soon be hosting a grand opening event and may be adding hours.

For more information or to place an order, call the shop at 203-5951.
