SUV Lands In Tree - Driver Killed

WOODLAND, Feb 13, 2012 (KTXL-TV - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- A 20-year-old woman is dead after the Range Rover she was driving ended up wrapped around a tree in the front yard of a Woodland home.

The crash happened on College Street near Monte Vista Drive at around 4 p.m.

Woodland Police told FOX40 the woman was seen speeding around the neighborhood, going 80 miles per hour, blowing through stop signs.

The chief of police happened to see her driving erratically while in his patrol car, and turned on lights and siren attempting to stop her. But he lost sight of her, deeming it unsafe to continue the pursuit through residential streets, according to police statements.


Shortly after, the woman lost control of the car and it launched off a curb into the tree.

Some eyewitnesses said the police chief and other patrol cars were close behind the speeding SUV shortly before it crashed.


Investigators were looking into a possible connection between the woman's erratic driving and a hit-and-run accident that happened shortly before the Range Rover was spotted speeding.

Woodland Police did not release the woman's identity Monday night, except to say that she was a resident of Woodland. She was the only occupant of the car.

A relative of the victim told FOX40 that the woman had recently lost her father, and was having family troubles, but nothing that could explain the tragic way her life ended.

"She respected others a lot, and she was just fun when she was around," said the relative, also not wishing to reveal the woman's name.
