Sun Microsystems takes consortium route for IPTV
(Ecomonic Times, The (India) (KRT) Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge) May 15--PUNE, India -- Sun Microsystems, the global IT major, is taking a consortium approach to market its IPTV/ triple play technology.
Its Indian arm, Sun Microsystems India, has formed a strategic alliance with Tech Mahindra as systems integrator partner.
The consortium comprises a clutch of other software and hardware companies, from equipment suppliers to security providers, giving telecom companies or cable operators the convenience of dealing with just one company and they are in the process of marketing the service to a telecom company, one each, in Europe and the US.
"This is the first time that company has gone in for an end-to-end alliance," KP Unnikrishnan, director, strategic alliances, Sun Microsystems India, said.
