Student of the Month Luncheon to Highlight School Choice

Five students from area schools will be honored at the Soldotna Chamber of Commerce Student of the Month Luncheon in celebration of National School Choice Week.

The luncheon will take place at noon Tuesday, Jan. 24 at Soldotna Regional Sports Complex and is planned to coincide with the history-making celebration of National School Choice Week 2017, which will feature more than 21,000 school choice events across all 50 states.

The guest speaker will be Bridgit Gillis, program director for the Amundsen Education Center. Student Ambassadors for the chamber will give National School Choice Week yellow scarves to attendees.

"It is an honor for the Soldotna Chamber of Commerce to give back to our community through our youth development programs. Each month, the Soldotna Chamber recognizes five local students, from both the private and public sectors, for excellence in the classroom and in their community," said Sara Hondel, tourismand education coordinator for the Soldotna Chamber. "Soldotna's educational opportunities are very diverse: we have one homeschool program, one Montessori school, one performance based school, 3 public elementary schools, one middle school, one prep school, one high school, and three private schools. We are excited to highlight them all to commemorate School Choice Week!"
