Stabenow, Levin Announce $1.9 Million for Chippewa County Airport

Jun 18, 2009 (Congressional Documents and Publications/ContentWorks via COMTEX) -- WASHINGTON - U.S. Senators Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) and Carl Levin (D-MI) announced today that the U.S. Department of Transportation has awarded $1,900,000 to Chippewa County International Airport in Sault Sainte Marie. The funding will be used to rehabilitate hangar #155.

"I'm pleased that this funding will help support important improvements to Chippewa County International," Stabenow said. "Repairing the hangar will help keep air traffic on schedule and add to an already pleasant experience for passengers." "Chippewa County International serves as an important gateway to the eastern U.P., and this federal funding will help them continue to serve their customers effectively," said Levin. "I am hopeful that this will help improve air travel for Michiganders and visitors alike." The funding comes as part of the Airport Improvement Program (AIP), which provides grants to public agencies and other entities for the planning, development and improvement of public-use airports that meet certain criteria.
