St. John's Regional Medical Center and Pleasant Valley Hospital Recommit to Misys CPR(TM) with Plans to Add Computerized Physician Order Entry (CPOE) Capability
RALEIGH, N.C. --(Business Wire)-- May 25, 2006 --
Upgrade will move hospitals to computerized physician order entry with expected 100 percent utilization to improve patient care and business efficiencies
Misys Healthcare Systems, a market leader in healthcare IT, today announced that St. John's Regional Medical Center and St. John's Pleasant Valley Hospital, which have more than 400 beds and more than 600 affiliated physicians, have successfully upgraded Misys CPR. The upgrade represents a large, multi-year commitment to Misys CPR and Misys Healthcare Systems by St. John's Hospitals. St. John's Regional Medical Center and St. John's Pleasant Valley Hospital are members of Catholic Healthcare West, the largest religious-sponsored healthcare system located in San Francisco, Calif.
Using Misys CPR, the St. John's hospitals will benefit from cross-departmental, multi-disciplinary efficiencies by sharing data elements rather than repeating procedures. This enhanced communication can be shared between hospitals, clinics and in physicians' offices, an underlying goal of all Misys Healthcare Systems' technology. Since 1993, Misys CPR has helped physicians at St. John's to manage and share information for over 150,000 patients annually. Misys CPR gives physicians the ability to access patient data electronically and improve the delivery and management of care at every point of service, across all clinical departments.
"During the implementation process, it was evident that Misys is committed to our long term success through the delivery of exceptional product upgrades, such as Misys CPR. Misys provided us with excellent, time-tested suggestions to help our organization achieve high adoption rates, and as a result, St. John's will continue to streamline workflow and run a more efficient business," said Dr. Eugene Fussell, vice president of medical affairs at St. John's Regional Medical Center.
"With CPOE, physicians are able to deliver improved patient care since they have a patient's complete medical history, including medications and previous test results, at their fingertips," said Richard Atkin, president of Misys Healthcare Systems' Hospital System business unit. "As more physicians place prescription orders electronically using Misys CPR, the staff will see an increase in efficiency with fewer drug interactions, duplicate tests and wasted administrative time. It's a win for everyone."
Misys CPR, when enhanced with CPOE, will provide physicians with improved workflow and facilitate a decrease in medical errors through an integrated physician support system. "St. John's is working towards full physician adoption of CPOE by mid-2007," stated Dr. Fussell. Using CPOE, physicians place orders electronically, with the information passed seamlessly to the pharmacy and nursing staff via Misys CPR, an integrated clinical system.
