Spain : Gamesa to collaborate with the Vicente Ferrer Foundation to help school children in India [TendersInfo (India)]

(TendersInfo (India) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Gamesa and the Vicente Ferrer Foundation today signed an agreement designed to facilitate the schooling of underprivileged boys and girls in India. This project will be carried out in the state of Andhra Pradesh -specifically the Anantapur district-, one of India's poorest states and where almost 35% of the adult population is illiterate.

The project entails the construction of a school in the town of Thimmirikuntapalli (Anantapur) for the provision of after-school tutoring to 57 children. The idea behind the initiative is to reinforce their learning and reduce early school dropout rates by facilitating ongoing studies in the primary schools and, later, the public secondary boarding schools, providing them with equal opportunities and bringing about enhanced social integration.

As well as a school, the new centre will serve as a meeting point for the Community Development Committee, made up of Thimmirikuntapalli representatives, and as a meeting place for the local women's associations and associations for the disabled.

The agreement was signed in Zamudio (Vizcaya) in the presence of Xabier Etxeberria, Gamesa's Business CEO; Isaac Ruiz, Gamesa's Corporate Social Responsibility Director; Moncho Ferrer, Programme Director at the Vicente Ferrer Foundation; Jordi Folgado Ferrer, the Foundation's General Manager in Spain, and Xabier Orueta, the Foundation's representative in the Basque Country and Cantabria.

"Vicente Ferrer used to say that we could not make every poor person rich but that we could empower organised communities. Education and community empowerment are key to fighting poverty and securing a decent future for India's most impoverished communities", said Jordi Folgado Ferrer.

"This agreement with the Vicente Ferrer Foundation marks another milestone in Gamesa's commitment to actively contributing to the development of the communities in which it is present by helping to build the local industrial landscape, generating jobs and sponsoring projects that benefit the local population. In India, where we have been operating since 2009, we have two manufacturing facilities and one technology centre, wind farm developments nationwide and 1,000 employees", explained Xabier Etxeberria.
