Spain Displays Cutting Edge Audiovisual Industry at MIPCOM 2008
PARIS --(Business Wire)-- Innovation and creativity in the Spanish audiovisual industry will take centre stage at MIPCOM 2008 during "Focus on Spain," a series of events and conferences organized in partnership with the Institute for Spanish Commerce Export (ICEX) and the Federation of Spanish Producers' Associations (FAPAE). MIPCOM, the world's audiovisual content market, will be held in Cannes from 13 through 17 October 2008.
"Focus on Spain," with the support of the Spanish public TV and radio group Corporacion RTVE, will provide a snapshot of a fully-diversified audiovisual sector undergoing rapid international expansion. Three conferences will share the spotlight on the Spanish industry: "Market Overview;" "Spanish Fiction: New Business Models and Business Opportunities;" and "Fresh Fiction from Spain." Marcos Santana, President of Telemundo Internacional, along with other decision-makers, are expected at the event. During MIPCOM Junior (11-12 October), TV3 is hosting a conference under the heading "Animation From Spain: Sharing Expertise," followed by a lunch which will bring together Spanish and foreign experts to look at youth programming. More events are to be announced in the next weeks.
"We've chosen to focus on Spain at this year's MIPCOM to celebrate the creativity and competitiveness of their audiovisual industry, which has taken key positions on the international market over the last few years, mainly thanks to popular formats and series sold the world over," says Paul Johnson, Director of Television at Reed MIDEM. "Spain has groups with international scope, covering all sectors of the market - production, distribution, broadcasting, all of which are potential partners for MIPCOM participants."
Angel Martin Acebes, Director of ICEX adds: "Focus on Spain is an occasion to show MIPCOM participants the creative and business potential of Spanish audiovisual and telecoms services in a new light, to demonstrate their expertise and their development not just in traditional TV production but also in new sectors like the Internet, mobile telephony and rights management."
Combined revenue for audiovisual, Internet and telecoms services in Spain grew 3.8% in 2007, reaching 6.8 billion euros, and revenue from audiovisual content exports grew 50% between 2001 and 2007. Television accounted for 39% of these exports with strong growth in the animation and documentary sectors. The USA and Europe represented 75% of foreign sales, but Asian markets have seen the strongest growth over the last few years, going from 4% of total sales in 2006 to 11% in 2007.
