Sophos Gives Small Businesses Greater IT Security for Less Cash; Latest upgrade includes anti-virus, encryption, application and device control and protects both Windows 7 and Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard

(M2 PressWIRE Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) IT security and data protection firm Sophos today announced a new version of Sophos Security Suite Small Business Edition 4.0, which now includes Sophos SafeGuard encryption and integrated application and device control, to help smaller businesses protect their confidential data. Built from Sophos's existing anti-virus, anti-spyware, anti-spam, and desktop firewall functionality, all of which are managed through the new SophosControlCenter, this latest version includes protection for both Windows and Mac systems, including the latest versions (Windows 7 and Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard).

"A top concern for small businesses is how to protect their systems and confidential information without hammering open the piggy bank or hiring a small army of security gurus," said Artur Kocharyan, product manager for small business solutions at Sophos. "Small businesses can be devastated by an infection or data breach, and the concern is that many are ignoring the risks rather than dealing with them head on. We have listened to our customers, and have not only introduced new technologies to mitigate against data loss, but we've also radically simplified the installation and the management. The best bit is that upgrading to this version doesn't cost our existing customers a single penny." "Cybercriminals don't care what size a business is, they are simply after the highly confidential information we hold on our systems. To avoid any major data leaks, keeping security measures up to date is just as crucial for small businesses, like ours, as it is for large organisations. We face a daily battle in managing the security surrounding our devices and applications and we turn to IT vendors to help relieve this burden", said Sophos small business customer Paul Mantovani at Advance Security. "Sophos's upgraded Security Suite Small Business Edition 4.0, helps small businesses, by offering better awareness and control over users' PCs. This product is a great step forward and delivers the high standards we have come to expect from Sophos products." The application and device control capabilities are built into the anti-virus client, simplifying deployment and management. Depending on productivity or security concerns, the application control functionality allows the IT manager to black- or whitelist the installation and use of a whole host of applications, such as VoIP, IM, P2P, browsers, games, instant messaging, and virtualization applications. In the case of device control, the administrator also has the option of blocking or allowing end users from using removable storage devices, optical media, modems and wireless interfaces.
