Sonaecom selects Cisco VQE technology for IPTV service

Portugal-based Sonaecom, the Sonae Group sub-holding for the telecommunications, media and software and systems information areas, has selected Cisco Visual Quality Experience technology for its Clix SmarTV IP television service.

According to Cisco, the deployment of Cisco Visual Quality Experience (VQE) standards-based technology will allow Sonaecom's network to support new features, including rapid channel change. Rapid channel change is claimed to reduce channel-change times from several seconds to less than one second.


Cisco VQE is part of the Cisco Content Delivery System (CDS), a platform that helps service providers offer a variety of services to subscribers, including video on demand, time-shifted television, ad insertion, streaming-intensive web services, user-generated content and next-generation content delivery network services.

Kip Compton, general manager for video and content platforms business unit at Cisco, said: "Our Visual Quality Experience technology plays a key role in giving service providers such as Sonaecom a competitive advantage over analog, traditional digital cable, and digital satellite services, by enhancing the reliability and robustness of the video delivery network."
