Solving Golf's Slow Play Problem by Chomko LA

PITTSBURGH, March 26, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Chomko LA, a clock company in Pittsburgh, Pa., has built a pace of play clock for the golf industry. Their pace of play clock was designed specifically to provide a reliable yet customer friendly approach to the problem of slow play on the golf course.

There is nothing more frustrating on a golf course then standing and waiting on every hole. Slow play can take all the entertainment value out of the game of golf. Golf should be played at a solid pace throughout the round.

The United States Golf Association's "While We're Young" Pace of Play Campaign is in full swing after its launch in 2013. Pace of Play continues to be addressed and clocks provide a solid solution.

Pace of Play clocks allow golfers to manage their play. By seeing the time displayed golfers can speed up when they start to lag behind. It is very easy to pick up the pace after a couple bad holes if you know your time.

Chomko LA has been providing high-end Solar Outdoor Clocks to golf courses for years.  Last year they developed their pace of play clocks.  According to Nick Chomko, "The only solution golf courses had for pace of play clocks was to purchase clocks from a home decor store. These clocks are not specifically built for golf course weather. This typically did more harm than good because the clocks lacked the quality necessary for the outdoor environment.  They would only display accurate time for a short period of time, then display inaccurate time.

When implementing a pace of play program, most golf courses have a clock at the first tee and 2 clocks on both the front nine and back nine.  The clocks are offset according to the desired pace of play.

For example, if golf managers want a "pace" that would have groups arrive at the 5th tee one hour after they tee off, the 5th tee clock is offset by an hour. A foursome teeing off on the 1st tee at 8:00 and is maintaining the recommended pace will arrive at the 5th tee box with that clock displaying 8:00.

Golf has always been a self-managed sport. Golfers only need to know their recommended time on the course and the etiquette of the golfers will maintain the pace. Pace of Play Clocks are a friendly and proactive approach to the problem of slow play. It is the "game clock" that becomes the reference and maintains the pace just like the game clock in other sports.
