Software firm eyes floods [Bangkok Post, Thailand]

(Bangkok Post (Thailand) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Jan. 19--Infor Group, a US-based provider of enterprise applications and services, is making a major stride in expanding its business footprint in Thailand by offering heavy promotional discounts on its software for flood-affected factories.

The world's third-largest applications software company aims for a 30% growth rate for its Thai business unit this year.

Ronnachart Mahattanapreut, the country director of Infor Global Solutions (Thailand), said Thailand is the group's biggest market in Asean.

He said the company this year expects to see high demand from clients in discrete manufacturing businesses to invest in enterprise resource planning (ERP) solutions, especially those in industry equipment, machinery and high-technology computer and electronic components, thanks to the flood.

New investments would centre on backup recovery centres to ensure business continuity and ERP licences to operate the backup sites.

The company has 40 flood-hit customers in the manufacturing sector, he added.

Mark Humphlett, director for industry and product marketing of Infor, said the company is introducing a new version of Infor 10 ERP Business version 8.03, a role-based information and mobility support version. The new version could reduce implementation time from one year to a few months.

Mr Gartner said 20-35% of ERP projects have failed due mainly to high customers' software requirements, resulting in the projects being overbudget.

Thailand is a big market for the group, just behind China, India, Japan and Australia in the region.

"The Asia-Pacific is the group's second-largest market generating ERP revenue, behind the US," Mr Humphlett said.

Mr Ronnachart added that the group aims for the local operating unit to double its sale revenue growth rate this year to 30%.

"Our goal is to become the largest market player in Asean, helped by the increasing expansion of new factories under the free trade environment," he said.

In addition, software to manage warehouses and distribution locations in multiple sites is expected to see strong growth this year.

Infor will merge its office with Lawson Software in Thailand in March following its US$2-billion acquisition to expand to the process manufacturing market.
