TORONTO, May 24, 2016 /CNW/ - Social Media Week is returning to Toronto after a three year hiatus through a new independent cities program, SMWi.  SMWi Toronto brings together thought leaders and experts at the intersection of marketing, media and technology. Unfolding over three days beginning June 6, SMWi Toronto (#SMWiTO) runs concurrently with Social Media Week events in cities around the world such as Los Angeles, Mexico City, Milan, Bangalore and San Francisco.

Organizers have released the schedule for SMWi Toronto and tickets are now available at: https://smwitoronto.com/schedule/.

The event kicks off with a day of keynotes and special presentations at TIFF Bell Lightbox followed by two days of sessions running at BrightLane and BrainStation, two up-and-coming digital hubs located in Toronto's King West neighbourhood. Headlining the keynotes include Digital Media Expert Jesse Brown, Trend Hunter's Shelby Walsh and a one-on-one interview with social media sensation Councillor Norm Kelly.

"To say we have a thriving social media community is an understatement; Toronto has a city councillor with more than a quarter million Twitter followers. But social media is still a relatively new field and professionals need real-life forums to share ideas and network; this is why we needed to bring a Social Media Week back to Toronto," says Michelle Pinchev, Executive Director of SMWi Toronto. "It's important to come together to discuss the issues and trends that affect the industry. Having these discussions and developing a tight-knit professional community at a local level has the potential to make Toronto more competitive on a global scale."

Toronto-based social media agency, Pinch Social, is organizing SMWi Toronto with sponsorship support from Resonator Agency, PostBeyond, Sprinklr, Shopify, Sysomos, BrightLane, BrainStation Toronto, Universe, Paradigm Public Relations and others.

The Globe and Mail, CBC Toronto, Indie88 and BetaKit are the official media sponsors of SMWi Toronto.
