SmarTrend(R) News Watch: SmarTrend(R) Opening Bell Comments -- July 2, 2009

Last updated July 2nd, 2009 6:45 AM ET---Futures are lower this morning as investors await U.S. unemployment data that may show unemployment rising closer to the psychologically important 10% mark. In the corporate front, auto-supply company Lear (NSYE:LEA) announced, somewhat unexpectedly, that it plans to file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. In overseas trade, Asian markets were mixed with the Nikkei and Hang Seng lower and the Shanghai composite up. U.S. markets end the week today as markets are closed tomorrow in observance of Independence Day. At the time of this report, S&P futures are down more than 7 points vs. fair value, Nasdaq futures are lower by 10.5 points and Dow futures are 57 points lower.
