It is an evaluation kit designed to allow device manufacturers and system integrators to evaluate the Silex wireless radio module and driver with the Freescale's i.MX6 processor on the SABRE smart devices board. It is an off the shelf, plug and play kit which makes the evaluation process very easy. "There are a number of Wi-Fi modules in the market today, so it is very important for Silex to provide a good evaluation kit and platform to test the radio characteristics of the module," said Babar Hashim, Product Manager at Silex Technology America. "With the SX-6K3-EVK-SD evaluation platform, customers can easily and conveniently evaluate the radio, significantly reducing their time to market." Previously, evaluation required using the image provided with the Freescale i.MX 6. While the standard Freescale-supplied radio driver can still be used for evaluation, it is not recommended as it is not optimized for performance. To simplify evaluation, the SX-6K3-EVK-SD now comes with a SD card pre-loaded with an Ubuntu Linux image containing binary images of Silex Technology's optimized AR6003 dual band driver, security supplicant and test utilities. By simply replacing the SD card in your SABRE board, the system boots directly from the SD card into the GNOME desktop. It includes step by step instructions for setup and testing of the Wi-Fi interface. It is the latest driver and is not readily available to the open source community yet.
