Silent Communications raises $1m for Chinese joint venture
(Israel Business Arena Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge) Israeli start-up Silent Communication Ltd., a developer of wireless communications solutions, announced today that it raised $1 million from Chinese telecommunications giant Shenzen Junao Technology (SJT). The finance will be used to set up a joint venture in China for the sales of the company's call completion solutions for cellular operators and handset manufacturers. The investment in Silent Communication is SJT's third investment in Israel in recent months, after previously acquiring two start-ups, FoxCom and TMT.
Silent Communication has developed a product called Talking without Talking, which is designed to reduce the volume of missed calls on cellular networks. The company's solution is designed for cellular operators who wish to reduce the number of instances where users receive no answer, leading to a lost call.
While SMS is one of the applications used to deal with this problem, Silent is offering a more comprehensive solution that will include an automated voice answering service instead of the user's own recorded message and a text message function whose characters are converted into sound.
Silent Communications was founded in 2003 and raised $600,000 in its first financing round 18 months ago.
