Signing day: 18 Edmond athletes sign letters of intent(The Edmond Sun, Okla. Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Feb. 5--There were few surprises on Wednesday as 18 local athletes signed letters of intent to play college athletics. Santa Fe had the most with nine signees, including five for football, three for soccer and one for track. Deer Creek and Edmond North each had four, while Memorial had one. The Weber State (Utah) football team picked up three recruits, with Memorial's Anthony Morales, and Santa Fe's Trevor Pletcher and Willie Okwuonu, choosing the Wildcats. Deer Creek's Casey Edgeman and Santa Fe's Ian Labbe, both picked Mid-America Nazarene to continue their football careers. Four football players went the Division-I route, including two from Deer Creek, as Dax Dilbeck is headed to Oregon State and Zach Trujillo will attend Kansas State. North's Brad Wilcox picked Bringham Young over Oregon State, while Santa Fe's Daeshon Bufford will be going to Tulsa. Teammates Randy Ponder and Steve Sumpter are still weighing their options. Santa Fe wide receiver Jordan Mitchell will be following former head coach Dan Cocannouer to Southwestern Oklahoma State. Deer Creek's Jantz Haan chose to stay close to home, picking Central Oklahoma. The Santa Fe soccer program is sending three athletes to Division-I programs, as Caitlin Mooney signed with Maryland, Jasmine Simmons chose Mississippi State and Brittany King is headed to Southern Methodist. North's Jordan Hutchison picked Central Oklahoma. Santa Fe's Constance Ezugha, who was one of the state's best volleyball players, chose to compete in track and field for Arizona State. The North boys golf program sent two more athletes to play at Division I schools, as Chandler Rusk joined Santa Fe's Drew Dorsey at Texas Tech and Greg O'Connor at Kennesaw State (Georgia).
