Siemens expands TDC Swiss network [Siemens]
(Total Telecom Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge)German technology company Siemens AG Friday said TDC Switzerland AG has commissioned the company to replace and expand TDC's wide area network. The installation will enable the telecom provider to offer its customers the latest services with maximum scalability. The contract will run for three years.
The Swiss telecom provider's existing wide area network dates back to the early days in 1997. However, requirements with regard to performance and cost-effectiveness have grown in the past years so that it has become necessary to switch to a solution provided by the latest generation of networks. In the future, sunrise will use the multi-service provisioning platform Surpass hiT 70xx from Siemens Communications. This will result in reduced internal costs for transmission services in the main network, or backbone, as well as enable sunrise to offer its customers innovative new services.
Surpass hiT 70xx supports all types of voice, data and video applications based on the latest Ethernet and traditional Time Division Multiplexing, or TDM, technology. These services will be available across the entire network and at every location. With its highly integrated architecture, efficiency as well as substantially smaller required space and lower electric consumption, the solution achieves optimized operating costs. Furthermore, the multi-service provisioning platform is designed for the greatest scalability, so that all possible requirements, from customer access through to the central office, are covered by an optimal price-performance ratio.
