Shionogi, Galderma to Promote Acne Medicine Adapalene in Japan

(Comtex Business Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge)Tokyo, Japan, Mar 08, 2006 (JCN Newswire via COMTEX) --Shionogi announced on March 7 that it has reached a basic agreement with Galderma K.K. for the sale of adapalene gel 0.1%, Galderma's proprietary agent for the treatment of acne.



Under the terms of the agreement, the two companies will collaborate in promoting the agent upon its receipt of manufacturing approval in Japan. Further, Shionogi will retain the exclusive right to sell the agent for eight years after its release.

Adapalene gel 0.1%, a naphthoic acid derivative with retinoid-like activity, is prescribed in over 80 countries worldwide under the trade name Differin. Galderma K.K. has recently completed phase III controlled studies in Japan and plans to file a new drug application with the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare in the second quarter 2006.
