Sheriff's investigators recover stolen goods
AVON PARK, Feb 14, 2012 (Highlands Today - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) --
While investigating alleged narcotics violations in Avon Park, members of the Highlands County Sheriff's Office Special Investigations Unit served a search warrant on Feb. 8 and discovered a cache of items believed to be stolen.
As a result of this investigation, Robert Windell Harvey, 46, Christina Marie Harvey, 42, and Kristin Noelle Shepard, 40, all of 816 S. Palmer Ave., were arrested on various drug-related charges, according to Nell Hays, sheriff's spokeswoman.
Christina Marie Harvey, 42 was free on $2,000 bail Tuesday, on charges of possession of a controlled substance without a prescription, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Robert Windell Harvey, 46, was free on $21,000 bail Tuesday, on charges of possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of marijuana, trafficking in methamphetamine, and possession of methamphetamine with intent to sell.
Shepard remained in jail Tuesday in lieu of $12,000 bond on charges of possession of a controlled substance without a prescription and possession of drug paraphernalia.
None of these individuals have been charged in connection with any of the items recovered from their home at this time, said Hays.
"As this investigation continues, additional charges related to this property will be made on a case-by-case basis," Hays said.
At the time of the arrests, detectives from the Criminal Investigations Unit were called to the scene and picked up the investigation into the alleged stolen property from there.
As a result, more than 250 items were taken into evidence from the Palmer Avenue location by detectives with the assistance of the Avon Park Police Department.
Recovered items included computers, laptops, computer screens, firearms, cell phones and Blackberrys, various types of GPS units, video games, I-pods and I-pads, TV's, cameras, camcorders, DVD players, amplifiers and speakers, jewelry, coins, wallets, tools and equipment, games; even an air-conditioning unit and a Honda motorcycle were among the items taken from the scene.
Many of the articles have been confirmed as stolen property, said Hays.
However, detectives are still in the process of comparing other items with prior burglary and theft reports in an effort to solve these cases and return property to its rightful owners.
"This investigation was huge in identifying other offenders who are using drugs to steal and trade stolen property from burglaries to support their substance abuse habits; but most importantly trying to assist our victims in returning their property," said Sheriff Susan Benton.
