Shaw wins deal to sell TV, Internet and phone services on Husky oilsands project

(Canadian Press DataFile Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) CALGARY _ Shaw Communications Inc. (TSX:SJR.B) has won a contract to provide phone, TV and Internet services to workers building Husky Energy's Sunrise oilsands project in northern Alberta.

Financial terms of the three-year deal, announced Tuesday, were not revealed.

Shaw said its business services unit had won the contract from oilsands contractor Snamprogetti Canada Inc., which is building the Sunrise project.

Shaw will provide high-definition TV, Internet, phone and wireless services to the 1,500 worker construction camp at the Sunrise project.

The Sunrise oilsands development is about 60 kilometres northeast of Fort McMurray, Alta. and is a joint venture partnership between Husky and British oil giant BP PLC.

The first phase, representing an investment of $2.5 billion, is expected to produce about 60,000 barrels of oil a day in 2014 and the project has approvals for eventual expansion to 200,000 barrels a day.

Peter Bissonnette, president of Shaw Communications, said the agreement "is one of the largest of its kind for Shaw Business and shows our capability to provide exceptional tailor-made communications services to a wide variety of industries." Shaw said it expects to implement the first part of the communications expansion by the end of February.

Shaw is Canada's second-biggest cable TV operator and also provides telecom and satellite TV services. The company also owns the former Global conventional TV network and 18 specialty channels including HGTV Canada, Food Network Canada, History Television and Showcase.

Husky Energy (TSX:HSE) is one of Canada's largest integrated oil companies, with oilsands, natural gas, refinery and gasoline station businesses in Canada, a refinery in the United States and operations in Asia.
