Shallow undersea quake strikes off Sumatra, Indonesia
JAKARTA, Jun 19, 2012 (Xinhua via COMTEX) --
An earthquake measuring 5.0 jolted
waters off Bengkulu province in Sumatra Island on Tuesday, the
Meteorology and Geophysics Agency reported here.
The quake struck at 11:27 a.m. Jakarta time (0427 GMT) with
epicenter at 66 km southwest Mukomuko of the province and with a
depth of 10 km under sea bed, an official of the agency told
Xinhua by phone.
Indonesia sits on a vulnerable quake-hit zone known as "the
Pacific Ring of Fire."
