Sequenom Announces Commercial Launch of New Assay Design and Validation Service and Online Customer Portal

SAN DIEGO --(Business Wire)-- Sequenom, Inc. (NASDAQ:SQNM), a leading provider of fine mapping genotyping, methylation and gene expression analysis solutions, today announced the commercial launch of its Assays-By-Sequenom(TM) service. This service provides customers with the flexibility to choose any SNP of interest combined with the convenience and reliability of off-the-shelf pre-validated assay reagents. The new offering includes assay design for customer specified SNPs along with delivery of ready-to-use functionally validated assays for use with the MassARRAY(R) platform.

"We listened to increased customer demand for ready-to-go multiplexed genotyping assays," said Michael Monko, Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Sequenom. "Our turnkey solution is Assays-By-Sequenom, a service that enables fast experimental turnaround time by delivering easy to order, ready-to-go, custom designed multiplexed assays."

The new offering includes three levels of service; the levels range from basic assay design and oligonucleotide pooling to delivery of validated multiplexed assays. Customers will also receive ready-to-go oligonucleotide mixes and assay design files for import into the MassARRAY platform's Typer 4.0 software. This added convenience decreases hands-on time and infrastructure requirements for assay set up. MassARRAY customers will be able to access this service through a new customer portal called MySequenom.com that also offers additional tools and download options, e-commerce capabilities and support functions.

"This service offering complements our recently launched iPLEX(TM) Gold assay by providing a convenient solution for the assay set up of highly multiplexed genotyping assays," said Harry Stylli, Ph.D., President and Chief Executive Officer of Sequenom. "We expect this service to enable researchers to perform larger scale studies with faster turnaround time, further strengthening our competitive advantage in the SNP fine mapping market."
