SenionLab Rebrands Company: Senion

After more than five years in business, location-based services company SenionLab today said it is dropping its designation as a laboratory, and is now officially known as Senion. This change reflects the growing significance of the company in the indoor positioning system (IPS) market and the breadth of its customer installations.

"We've made inroads into a variety of vertical markets including medical and retail," said Marcus Andersson, VP of Sales and Marketing at Senion. "We're also signing on well-established, important new customers with highly recognizable brands, including a renowned shopping mall chain with global presence. And we've recently opened a San Francisco office to better cater to our growing customer base in North America. Our company has matured well beyond the start-up phase, and our new brand, Senion, reflects ths growth."

"In 2010, six researchers got together to build a solution to bring GPS-like positioning to pedestrians using smartphones in indoor locations," said CEO and Co-Founder Dr. Christian Lundquist. "We've completed that goal, grown our staff, and built relationships with app developers. The shortened name more accurately signifies the latest phase in the company's journey."

The name Senion comes from the term "sensor fusion," the fundamental technology behind the company's indoor positioning system. Senion's team used its expertise and experience in sensor fusion to create the IPS, known as StepInside, designing the system so that the positioning should be accurate, have no latency, be computable on the device, work on more or less any smartphone and be robust over time. "Our vision is to augment the mobile experience making people's everyday life more efficient and exciting," Dr. Lundquist added.
