SEMDA to Host Conference for Medical Device Companies
(Wireless News Via Acquire Media NewsEdge)
The Southeastern Medical Device Association (SEMDA) will host its third
conference on Tuesday, February 10, at the Georgia Aquarium.
The one-day conference, specifically designed to meet the needs of
medical device industry professionals, venture capitalists, inventors
and entrepreneurs, will offer three tracks this year. The first track
is focused on introducing early-stage medical device companies to the
venture funding community, while the other two tracks offer educational
information for both early stage and established device companies.
The event will include keynote presentations from industry leaders, as
well as:
- Presentations from some of the region's top existing and emerging
medical device companies - Workshops on topics including regulatory
challenges, both early and later stage funding, marketing, business
development and business issues - A panel discussion led by venture
capitalists on what they look for when making investment decisions -
Numerous industry networking opportunities including a special
post-conference reception in the Georgia Aquarium
SEMDA's first conference in 2006 drew more than 240 attendees, and 2008
registration totaled 350, with participants including investors,
researchers, established and emerging medical device companies and
industry professionals.
The annual conferences have become known as the premier regional
gathering for the medical device industry. While VC investments have
lagged in other industries, the medical device field remains relatively
robust.
"We have been very satisfied with the quality of the past conferences,
and expect the 2009 version to be even a bigger success," said David
Stern, current SEMDA President. "Unlike many typical investor
conferences, we also include an exciting education component, which
grows in popularity every year. We know these are tough economic times,
so we've kept the cost to participate low while offering more value for
attendees."
The Southeastern Medical Device Association (SEMDA) is a non-profit
trade association that supports and promotes medical device companies
in the Southeast. The association provides a unique resource and
networking opportunity for medical device companies, inventors,
physicians, and investors interested in accelerating the growth of the
medical device industry in the Southeast.
