SCSI Trade Association Accepts SCSI Express, a PCIe Storage Initiative, as a Formal Project
SAN FRANCISCO --(Business Wire)--
Trade Association (STA) (http://www.scsita.org/),
a member-run industry association established to support and promote
SCSI technology, today announced that it has accepted SCSI Express as a
formal project and has taken ownership of refining, defining and
marketing this data storage industry standard initiative.
SCSI Express is an industry initiative designed to adapt storage to
Peripheral Component Interconnect Express (PCIe). It utilizes the SCSI
over PCIe (SOP) and PCIe architecture queuing interface (PQI) model
being defined within the T10
STA has accepted the responsibility for using the efforts of T10 to
refine its definitionand to market this approach to PCIe-based storage.
"SCSI Express will continue to preserve a 30-year legacy of
software/middleware investments while co-existing with existing SAS (News - Alert)
products," said Harry
Mason, president of the SCSI Trade Association and director of
Industry Marketing for LSI Corporation (News - Alert). "It's a strong investment
protection story that allows systems to use traditional SAS-based
products and leverage them into systems opting to also deploy PCIe-based
SCSI Express, 12Gb/s SAS and other SAS demonstrations will be shown at
the STA-sponsored "Technology Showcase: Taming the Data Storage Beast,"
event on May 9, 2012 at 6:30 p.m. at the Hyatt Regency in Santa Clara,
Calif. Attendance is free and a spot may be reserved by visiting http://www.scsita.org/sas-showcase-2012.html.
The SCSI Trade Association (STA) was established in 1996 to provide a
focal point for members to communicate the benefits of SCSI to the
industry. STA promotes the understanding and use of Serial Attached SCSI
(SAS) technology and influences the evolution of SCSI standards to meet
future industry needs. The Association has a nine-member Board of
Directors, which oversees the Marketing Communications and Technology
Committees and all STA activities. To subscribe to Serial Storage Wire,
