SCRA-Managed National Armaments Consortium Announces Leadership Change

SUMMERVILLE, S.C. --(Business Wire)--

Today, the National Armaments Consortium (NAC) salutes the leadership of Mr. Gary A. Schneider, who is retiring as chairman of the Executive Committee effective November 7, 2014. Mr. Schneider is a founding member of the NAC and has served as the chairman of the NAC Executive Committee and co-chairman of the DoD Ordnance Technology Consortium (DOTC) Executive Committee since their founding in 2000 and 2004, respectively. The NAC Executive Committee has selected Ms. Diana-Lynn Herbst, a member of the committee since 2010, to succeed Mr. Schneider upon his retirement as chairman. Ms. Herbst will also succeed Mr. Schneider as the industrial/academic co-chair of the DOTC Executive Committee.

Presently, Mr. Schneider and Ms. Herbst are working closely together to execute a formal transition plan that will ensure a smooth and orderly leadership transition. To further ensure a seamless transition, Mr. Schneider has agreed to remain a member of the NAC and DOTC Executive Committees until October 2015. Under Mr. Schneider's chairmanship the NAC has grown from a 45-member, $5.4 million consortium in early 2000 to the 277-member, $790 million enterprise it is today.

"I've been privileged to lead what many have dubbed the "Gold Standard" of all Defense Consortia," Schneider said. "After fifteen years with the NAC, it's time to move on and pass the gavel to a new generation of leadership. I look forward to working with Diana, the Exeutive Committee and the management team during the transition period, and to being available as an advisor to the enterprise after retiring as chairman."

Having served for more than three decades in both the government and industrial sectors of the armament systems community, Ms. Herbst brings to the NAC chair position a broad array of industry, academic and government collaborative armament research, development and production experience. Her extensive background in government contracting and program management will be particularly useful as the NAC continues to rapidly provide innovative armament system solutions to the Warfighter.

"It is an incredible honor for me to take the lead and serve such a dynamic and thriving organization that is strongly committed to our Warfighter. I am proud of the accomplishments that we have achieved with our DoD partners and look forward to working together to drive our continued success," stated Ms. Herbst.
