Sckipio and ON.Lab Integrate G.fast into Virtual Access Network VisionSckipio Technologies, the leader in G.fast broadband access modems, The Open Networking Lab (ON (News - Alert).Lab) and the revolutionary open source SDN Open Network Operating System (ONOS) today announced a partnership to ensure full SDN support of Sckipio's G.fast Distribution Point Unit (DPU) and Customer Premises Equipment (CPE). The two will show a live demo of Sckipio OpenFlow-enabled G.fast DPUs being controlled by ONOS SDN control plane software at the Open Networking Summit, June 15-18, 2015 in Santa Clara, Calif. This will be the world's first public, end-to-end SDN-controlled G.fast demonstration as a part of the broader Central Office Re-architected as Datacenter (CORD) demo at the summit. "Sckipio is a leading G.fast vendor and contributor to the G.fast standard," said Guru Parulkar, Executive Director, ON.Lab and ONRC. "Our collaboration aims to leverage Sckipio's expertise to ensure that the next wave of access devices, specifically those for copper-based, local loop broadband, support the vision of an end-to-end virtualized network access model under SDN control instead of being built on proprietary solutions running in closed, siloed environments." "SDN and G.fast go hand-in-hand," said David Baum, co-founder and CEO of Sckipio Technologies. "Partnering with leaders like ON.Lab and the ONOS project accelerates the availability and open interoperability of each critical piece of the broadband network." The CORD demonstration comprises a proof-of-concept for a Telco central office architected using commodity hardware and open building blocks with a virtualized OLT provided by PMC-Sierra (News - Alert) interfacing with an SDN-controlled, Sckipio-based G.fast DPU. The broadband signal then runs through a Sckipio G.fast bridge, to a simple CPE with its traditional functions already virtualized and moved into the central office. ON.Lab and Sckipio's partnership will move the technology from proof-of-concept into a fully deployable environment in the next 12-18 months. This includes the integration of NETCONF/YANG, OpenFlow and other components. p> To learn more about the demonstration, please visit it live at ONS 2015 as part of the SDN Solutions Showcase and feel free to download a whitepaper outlining the demo and available starting June 12 at http://onosproject.org. The SDN Solutions Showcase will be open during ONS 2015 expo hours on June 16 from 12 - 2 p.m. and 5:30 - 8 p.m. PDT, June 17 from 12 - 8:30 p.m. PDT, and June 18 from 10:30 a.m. - 2 p.m. PDT.
