Scientific Learning Introduces New, Smarter Fast ForWord Intervention for Struggling Readers and English Language Learners

After helping more than 2.8 million learners worldwide, Scientific Learning Corp. (OTC PINK:SCIL) is strategically enhancing its flagship product, the neuroscience-based Fast ForWord® program, to make it more adaptive, engaging, motivating, and easier to implement. Following on the heels of the release of the Reading Assistant Plus online guided reading tool, the next step in the upgrade will be the release of the Fast ForWord Foundations program this August. Developed for K-5 students, it will feature major enhancements that deliver more personalized interventions and faster results for the nation's most vulnerable students.

Scientific Learning collaborated with its founding neuroscientists, Drs. Paula Tallal, Mike Merzenich, William Jenkins and Steve Miller, alog with Dr. Derek Lomas, neuroscientist and CEO of Playpower, to revamp the Fast ForWord program based on customer feedback, the latest neuroscience research, and cutting-edge adaptive learning techniques. As a result, the new Fast ForWord Foundations program contains SmartLearning Technology, a highly adaptive, intelligent back-end engine that intuits when a student is struggling, provides real-time instruction, and tracks individual student data so content items can easily be added, replaced, or modified. With smarter, more focused interventions personalized to each learner, and the technology to conduct randomized control trials based on student performance, the program can be continuously improved for better student outcomes.

"Our goal with the new Fast ForWord program was to take an already proven, evidence-based program and make it even more effective for struggling learners. With SmartLearning Technology, students stay challenged yet motivated, which makes it enjoyable for students and educators alike," said Jeffrey D. Thomas, co-chief executive officer of Scientific Learning. "Plus, this new technology allows us to continuously assess the effectiveness of any given task and regularly improve upon the program so students achieve even greater results."

Developed by neuroscientists, the new Fast ForWord program uses a unique three-step approach to deliver fast gains to students, including struggling readers, English language learners, and students with disabilities. It provides students with the foundational language and cognitive skills, intensive practice, and guided reading support that they need to catch up, once and for all.
