School board seats up for grabs

Nov 29, 2008 (McAlester News-Capital - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) --
It seems to many as if the presidential race has just ended and it's already time to start thinking about electing school board members.

The candidate filing period for school board seats in 14 public school districts in Pittsburg County will be open from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday at the Pittsburg County Election Board's temporary offices at 10 E. Washington Ave., adjacent to McAlester City Hall.

School board elections are set for Feb. 10.
"If no candidate receives more than 50 percent of the total votes cast in this election, the two candidates receiving the highest number of votes will meet in a runoff election on Tuesday, April 7," said Pittsburg County Election Board Secretary Cathy Thornton.
