Sana Security Enters Latin American Market
SAN MATEO, Calif. --(Business Wire)-- Countering the explosion in malware-based, for-profit online financial crime across emerging markets in Latin America, Sana Security, Inc., the leading behavioral security software company, today announced a master distribution agreement with CyberBRIC, Ltda to establish and manage the distribution value chain of its Primary Response SafeConnect and other security products throughout the region to prevent online identity theft and protect personal information. Initially targeting the cybercrime hotbed of Brazil, CyberBRIC will make Sana's unique behavior-based anti-malware technology available to these emerging markets for the first time through its close relationships with major regional and international financial institutions, telecommunications companies and government agencies.
"Internet-based crime has long been a problem for Brazil, which has a tradition of generating some of the world's most advanced malware, but today we are finding that most of the attacks have a clear for-profit motivation, employing bots, phishing, spyware, rootkits, keylogging and other techniques to attack our fast growing cross-country online population," said Leonardo Scudere, CEO of CyberBRIC. "Sana has a great opportunity in our region because its behavior-based Primary Response SafeConnect not only detects and removes these threats better than any other solution, but also continues to provide effective protection after it is installed with absolutely no technical skill required by the computer user."
According to Scudere, Brazil ranks number two in the world in online financial crime activity due mainly to the perfect storm created by the emergence of low-cost computers and broadband Internet access, the rapid adoption of convenient online banking, record volumes in online transactions through B2B, B2C and Electronic Invoicing applications, which are increasingly exploited through technologically creative tactics. Scudere notes that the financial institutions and electronic commerce providers in Brazil have been particularly hard hit due to the emergence of advanced malware such as the PWS-Bankers Trojan, which masquerades as an official bank application, and then attempts to subvert the latest security systems employed by the banks to gain access to users' accounts. Despite a roughly 95 percent adoption rate for anti-virus software among computer users in Brazil, Scudere says, traditional signature-based anti-virus products are ineffective and unable to keep up with the ever-changing malware these organized internal and external fraud groups employ, and as a result, 60 percent of these users still get infected.
"Through our agreement with CyberBRIC, computer users in Latin America for the first time will have access to the only proactive defense against threats targeting personal identity and data that plague online financial transactions and other online activities," said Don Listwin, CEO of Sana Security. "Despite widespread adoption of traditional, signature-based security solutions, the rapid emergence of new malware variants leaves computer users mostly unprotected, creating a huge opportunity for Sana to bridge that gap. Organized groups and varied online fraud techniques that exploit computer systems today are too sophisticated to be stopped by traditional reactive anti-virus technologies, period."
While CyberBRIC will initially focus on developing partners and strategic alliances in Brazil, this will be immediately followed by aggressive expansion into Mexico, Central America, Colombia, Argentina, Chile and the Caribbean markets.
Today's agreement comes on the heels of the announcement of a distribution agreement with Northamber, the UK's longest established trade-only IT distributor, to further strengthen Sana's presence in the EMEA region.
Primary Response SafeConnect utilizes Sana's Active Malware Defense Technology v.2 (Active MDT) to instantly detect malicious software and remove all traces of it by identifying and analyzing a combination of behaviors that indicate malware has infected the system, providing effective zero-day protection against all known and unknown malware threats before traditional signature-based security products even realize a threat exists. Once removal is complete, Primary Response SafeConnect continues to work and persistently protect PCs with no further action required on behalf of the user.
