Sack - Court Threatens to Jail Bank Directors


(AllAfrica Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) The National Industrial Court in Lagos has threatened to commit to prison directors and company secretary of the NPF Microfinance Bank if they failed to resolve the matter of their sacked General Manager (Operations) Mr. Joseph Adesina.



In his ruling, Justice Amadi lamented the carefree manner his orders are being flouted by the bank.

He said it is only in this country that people take the order of court with levity which is not the case in other jurisdictions alluding to the recent jailing of former French president, Nicolas Sarkozy.


He further encouraged settlement out of court but warned that he will not hesitate to dock the contemnors if the window of settlement is not embraced.

Those summoned for contempt include; Mrs. F. O. Adebanjo DIG rtd (Chairperson), CP Usman Baba (CP Police cooperative), ACP Muhammed Mukaddas (Financial controller Police cooperative), Mr. Emmanuel Wabali (Director), Prince Ifeanyi Eke (Director), Mr. Mohammed Saeed (Director) and Mrs. Osaro Idemudia (Company Secretary and Legal Adviser).

The case was further adjourned till 1st of August 2014 for hearing of the address on the issue of setting aside the letter of termination and the defendant's application for leave to appeal the interlocutory ruling while the contempt proceedings goes on if the advice of the court will not be heeded.

The matter started in 2013 when the claimant, Mr. Joseph Adesina, the General Manger (Operations) pointed out corporate governance breaches of the directors and the company secretary of the bank.
