RPSEA Releases Bold New Strategic Plan to Tackle Industry's Biggest Challenges

RPSEA today released its Strategic Plan for 2016 and beyond for managing and growing the organization's capacity to conduct research on the biggest technical challenges facing the oil and gas industry today and into the future.

A 501(c)(3) nonprofit, RPSEA is a consortium that brings together research universities, oil and gas companies, and national labs to perform cutting-edge research on the most important energy challenges of our time. It is a multi-purpose entity established to facilitate public-private partnerships, identify new methods and systems for exploring, producing, and transporting energy to market, and coordinate onshore and offshore research and development that leads to commercial solutions to these challenges.

Under the Strategic Plan, RPSEA will continue to utilize its talent-rich Technical Advisory Committees to identify research needs and create and manage strong teams to perform critical research, expand the scope of its Environmental & Safety Committee, and establish Regulatory and Investr Committees.

This industry-led cooperative research and development network of natural gas and oil experts has also begun pursuing broader sources of funding for projects and will continue to pursue government funding through various state and federal agencies. It is also pursuing new project opportunities with individual energy companies, joint industry projects, foundations, and not-for-profits. Numerous new opportunities for research exist, highlighted by the enormous pressures being placed on the energy industry through low commodity prices and increasingly stringent regulations.

Critical to RPSEA's success is its ability to be a low-cost manger and facilitator of research and development. The strategic plan streamlines the organization by merging multiple programs into two areas, onshore and offshore. A core strength for RPSEA is its strong connections with exploration and production companies, which offer experts, test sites, and support for projects.

"We have an enormous opportunity to provide badly-needed research for addressing the top challenges the oil and gas industry is facing today," said RPSEA President Tom Williams. "This unique consortium of oil and gas producers, service companies, research universities and national labs can manage top-notch research teams with superior, specialized skills for finding technology solutions that will lead to commercial successes. This Strategic Plan sets a course for us to firmly establish ourselves as the premier problem solver for the U.S. energy industry."

"RPSEA is serving its members by being prepared and responsive to urgent industry challenges and crises that may occur," said Paul Doucette, RPSEA Board of Directors Chair and Global Government Affairs and Policy Leader for GE Oil & Gas. "Our new Strategic Plan will help us focus our attention on being that problem-solving provider."
