Rhomobile Announces RhoHub, World's First Development-as-a-Service Offering for the Mobile Industry

LAS VEGAS, May 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Rhomobile, winners of the 2009 Best of Interop Award for Best Startup and the makers of the Rhodes smartphone development framework, today announced the public beta of RhoHub, the world's first Development-as-a-Service for Mobile. RhoHub provides a web-based service for both smartphone app development and hosting of mobile applications, making native mobile applications easier to build, deploy and run on all smartphones including BlackBerry, Windows Mobile, Android, Symbian and iPhone.

RhoHub allows developers to generate, compile and run smartphone applications through the web giving them flexibility in their build environment. No SDK (Software Developer Kit) is required, making the build process faster and more affordable. Developers can write code online from the RhoHub website anywhere. Rhomobile's Rhodes smartphone development framework enables the creation of robust native mobile applications, which take full advantage of smartphone capabilities such as GPS, PIM data and camera. Rhodes applications work with synchronized local data even when offline and disconnected.

Once the application is developed, RhoHub offers an Over-The-Air (OTA) provisioning server creating a single download URL for users. Users then access that URL from their mobile web browser and the RhoHub provisioning service offers the appropriate executable download for the detected smartphone. RhoHub also provides developers with a hosted copy of RhoSync, eliminating the need to host their own sync server to provide users with synchronized data in the application.

"Rhodes gave us the ability to write our application, Issues To Go, once and run it on multiple smartphones," said Vidal Graupera, founder of the VDG Group. "With RhoHub we now have the power and flexibility to manage, edit, deploy and run our application from anywhere. As an added bonus, the simple executable I can download from RhoHub on my Windows machine lets me see my application running immediately as I write the code." By allowing developers to code smartphone applications in HTML on a hosted service instead of in complex device programming languages on a desktop, RhoHub combined with Rhodes reduces development costs by up to five times and allows developers to work on native applications from any location. RhoHub generates client and server application code as HTML templates for the Rhodes client and source adapters for the RhoSync server, simplifying the development process.

"The Rhodes framework allows developers to build native mobile applications faster and more efficiently," said Adam Blum, CEO of Rhomobile. "Now by offering Development-as-a-Service with RhoHub we reduce development time. Developers don't have to download the Rhodes framework onto their own machines. More importantly they don't have to install specific smartphone OS SDKs on their machines. Mac programmers can build for Windows Mobile and BlackBerry. Windows developers can write iPhone apps. At run time we worry about the necessary hosted server infrastructure for a good mobile application so the programmer doesn't have to." RhoHub Features: -- Hosted editing and development of native applications -- Hosted build capabilities for all smartphones -- Optional OTA provisioning service -- Optional hosted sync server -- Makes developers five times more productive for even a single smartphone OS -- Allows developers to write apps using Rhodes in HTML and simultaneously build for all smartphones -- Supports BlackBerry, Windows Mobile, Android, Symbian and iPhone Availability A live demo of RhoHub is available this week at Interop in Las Vegas at Rhomobile's Interop booth 875.

The RhoHub public beta is currently available at no charge at http://rhohub.com/. Once out of beta, RhoHub will be available to developers for a monthly fee that is dependent on the number of users and size of the app.
