Research and Markets: North American Directory Services Market Report: The Age of Mobility

Research and Markets (http://www.researchandmarkets.com/research/9lbblq/north_american) has announced the addition of the "North American Directory Services Market: The Age of Mobility " report to their offering.

This report reviews the dynamics of the current directory market, and then suggests several strategies that will assist operators to compete in this dynamic new consumer information market.

While there are many reasons for this decline, a primary one is the rise of the Internet as a source of directory information. As previous Stratecast reports have disclosed, a typical Web browser provides virtually all of the information a print directory does, and with the added benefit of being easier to use and navigate.

I previous reports, Stratecast recommended that directory publishers, and network operators generally, adopt the Internet as a preferred way to provide directory information. We pointed out that a creative use of Web portals would tend to brand the online and directory experience, and could be easily integrated with other service offerings.

Happily, the integration of the Internet into service offerings and sales channels is happening at a rapid pace. Directory publishers like YP and Dex Media Inc. have moved swiftly to integrate mobile technology into their directory services. Yet, these efforts have not evolved as far as they must to grow revenues and expand the use of directory services.

The rules for the new market, however, are significantly different than simple Internet access on the move. Large search providers like Google (News - Alert) are quickly maneuvering to bypass and render irrelevant the efforts of operators in the local mobile search market. Operators will need to evolve quickly to stay competitive.
