Research and Markets: North American Broadband Tracker: Second Quarter 2015

Research and Markets (http://www.researchandmarkets.com/research/646jvq/north_american) has announced the addition of the "North American Broadband Tracker: Second Quarter 2015 " report to their offering.

The total number of North American broadband subscribers increased by an estimated percentage points in 2Q 2015, compared to 2Q 2014. During the second quarter of 2015, telco fiber service providers gained net adds, and satellite providers gained 16,000, while DSL providers reported a net loss of subscribers.

US Cable operators reported their best second quarter since 2008, with an estimated net adds. Most of this increase came from Comcast (News - Alert) and Time Warner Cable, with each reporting more than net adds.

I contrast, Canadian cablecos added only subscribers in 2Q 2015, their lowest since 2007. Operators cited the decision by the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) to eliminate the day cancellation notice period, which became effective in January 2015.

In the US, DSL providers lost subscribers in 2Q 2015, while Canadian DSL providers gained.
