One in three large hospitals are in a buying spree, selecting new EHRs, changing out original systems after implementation delays, cost run-ups and, physician revolts, meaningful use snafus, silo complaints, interoperability disconnects, and accountable care reforms. 163 hospitals over 300 beds submitted ballots, in the survey conducted from September 2013 to January 2014, which also included teaching facilities with faculty practices. Key findings include 32% of large hospitals with implemented EHRs are reevaluating their vendor's service and products, including the progress of systems not yet fully installed. 19% indicate the reevaluation will likely lead to a replacement system. 92% of large hospital IT respondents indicated that vendors that demonstrate population health competencies and data connectivity with other providers will be on their EHR selection short lists in the coming twelve months.
