Registrars Institute Advocates Transparency in Information MGT

(AllAfrica Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Registrars in the capital market have been advised to devise acceptable ways of managing information flows to investors in a transparent manner as it is key to boosting investors' confidence.

Speaking at the launch of African Prudential Registrar's E-registrar Solution, ERS, in Lagos, Mr. Walter Ogogo, Registrar/CEO, Institute of Capital Market Registrars, ICMR, said that information management is a key aspect and way of entrenching of corporate governance in the market.

"We are talking about information and the way registrars perform their functions. The way shareholders will access information without anything that will seem as if there is something secret going on.

These are the things that make up good corporate governance and in building a veritable capital market; it must be hinged on four pillars of corporate governance. This will increase investors' confidence," he said.

"Investors confidence has to do with the perception of investors on the programmes, decisions and financials of the regulators, operators, the Securities and Exchange Commission, SEC, and the Nigerian Stock Exchange, NSE.

"How does the investing public perceive the various stakeholders and by the time their perception is measured, we come up with the word - investors confidence and with good corporate governance, I know that investors confidence will continue to soar in the country," he added. Also speaking, Mr. Bola Ajomale, Managing Director/CEO, NASD, said that it is important registrars give shareholders accurate and timely information on happenings in their companies as this would aid in making good investment making, which would in turn boost their confidence.
