Red Hat and Tresys Partner for Enhanced Linux Security Services

(Wireless News Via Acquire Media NewsEdge)
Tresys Technology, a provider of technology and services for customers
with high security requirements, and open sources solutions provider
Red Hat announced an agreement to work together to deliver government
and enterprise security services to customers.

Under the terms of the agreement, Red Hat and Tresys will offer
services that include security engineering, secure application
development, virtualization security and compliance certification and
accreditation support on the Red Hat Enterprise Linux platform, the
company said.

Tresys is a provider of Linux security services and a principal open
source contributor to the Security-Enhanced Linux (SELinux) kernel.
SELinux was developed in coordination with the open source community
and the National Security Agency (NSA) to provide the highest level of
security for the Linux operating system. Tresys currently hosts the
SELinux upstream repository, the central point for the development of
SELinux, which also serves as the foundation for the integration of
SELinux features into all major Linux distributions, the company said.

Red Hat has provided software for use in security-sensitive
environments, in both the public and private sectors, and a
well-established commitment to SELinux. Red Hat has integrated full
SELinux support into both the community-based Fedora distribution and
the Red Hat Enterprise Linux distribution and contributed significant
enhancements to the SELinux kernel code, policies and user community,
according to the company.

"As security-conscious organizations across sectors recognize a need

for solutions that will enable them to collaborate quickly and
securely, they are migrating to those solutions with government-grade
security capabilities," explained Paul Smith, Red Hat's vice president
of government sales operations. "This partnership marks closer
cooperation between Red Hat and Tresys in an effort to meet increased
demand for services in the secure computing market."

"Customers will benefit from Red Hat and Tresys' mutual commitment to
certified and supported Linux platforms for enterprise and government
customers," said Gary Latham, executive vice president of corporate
development at Tresys. "We share the belief that solutions built on
SELinux offer security that is among the strongest commercially
available today, and we are looking forward to delivering the services
customers require to design secure networks, protect platforms, build
secure applications and meet regulatory compliance commitments."
