Public Relations Author and University of North Carolina Professor Earns PRSA's Atlas Award

(Targeted News Service Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) PHILADELPHIA, Oct. 27 -- The Public Relations Society of America issued the following news release: The Public Relations Society of America (http://prsa.org/) (PRSA) has honored Dr. Dean Kruckeberg, APR, Fellow PRSA, tenured full professor in the Department of Communication Studies at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, with its 2013 Atlas Award for Lifetime Achievement in International Public Relations. The award, presented today at the PRSA 2013 International Conference (http://www.prsa.org/conferences/internationalconference/?utm_source=newsroom&utm_medium=news_release&utm_campaign=conference_pr) in Philadelphia, is given annually to a public relations practitioner who has made extraordinary contributions to the global practice of public relations over the span of his or her career.

"Dean is known globally as one of the leading public relations educators," said PRSA 2013 Chair and CEO, Mickey G. Nall, APR, Fellow PRSA, "yet it is because of his dedication to research and ethics internationally and his service to the Society that I am honored to present him with the Atlas Award for Lifetime Achievement in International Public Relations." Kruckeberg was co-researcher of a two-year study that was released globally in 2003 that ranked countries according to the likelihood that their daily newspaper reporters were seeking or accepting bribery for editorial coverage. This study received worldwide attention and marked the beginning of a stream of research about these countries' journalists' propensity toward bribery.

Author of many book chapters, articles and papers dealing with international public relations and ethics, Kruckeberg is also co-author of the book Public Relations and Community: A Reconstructed Theory. Additionally, he is co-author of several editions of the globally distributed book This Is PR: The Realities of Public Relations.

In addition to his role at the University of North Carolina, Kruckeberg was executive director of the Center for Global Public Relations from 2008 to 2013. From 1983 through 2008, Dr. Kruckeberg was a public relations professor in the Department of Communication Studies at the University of Northern Iowa, serving as coordinator of the public relations degree program in the Mass Communication Division.

Kruckeberg has previously won prestigious awards from PRSA on the national level. In 1995 Kruckeberg was named "Outstanding Educator of the Year" and in 2006 he was awarded the "Jackson Jackson & Wagner Behavioral Research Prize." He was also the 2010 Chair of the PRSA International Section and is a member of PRSA's Global Affairs Committee.

"The PRSA 2013 Atlas Award for Lifetime Achievement in International Public Relations is an immense honor," said Kruckeberg. "I will accept this award in Philadelphia with great humility, knowing the worldwide stature and globally significant contributions of those who have preceded me as recipients of the Atlas Award, beginning with John M. Reed, APR, Fellow PRSA, in 1995." CC AutoTriage8sgm-131028-30VitinMar-4529900 (c) 2013 Targeted News Service
