PSC Introduces Magellan(R) 1000i Omni-Directional Imaging Scanner

EUGENE, Ore., Jan. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- PSC Inc., a global leader in international data collection technology and related services announced at the NRF convention today, the Magellan 1000i, the newest breakthrough in data capture technology. The world's first imaging based presentation scanner, the Magellan 1000i is designed for convenience stores, drug stores, specialty stores and other medium volume checkout environments.

The Magellan 1000i's solid-state construction increases reliability while the ultra-small size frees up valuable counter selling space. The Magellan 1000i excels at capturing hard-to-read bar codes in virtually any orientation and supports both presentation and sweep scanning styles. The Magellan 1000i also offers an optional targeted scanning mode for scanning close proximity bar codes like those on a pick list.
PSC's newest presentation scanner, designed for "small-counter" retail environments, incorporates several new design wins for the user. "Our design objectives were simple: improve checkout productivity while protecting the customer's investment by adding capabilities that would extend the typical life of the scanner. We developed a new bar code scanner that is faster at capturing hard-to-read labels, has outstanding ergonomics especially when handheld use is required, and has an excellent price to value ratio," said Nick Tabet, PSC's Vice President of Retail Scanning.
The Magellan 1000i will also be very effective at protecting the user's investment by potentially extending the useful life of the scanner. PSC's new imaging technology has no moving parts, providing excellent reliability and durability. This new technology also has a significant software component that will make adding new features and enhancements much easier. Features such as new code symbologies or new decoders can be added via software updates. And, like the entire market share leading Magellan family, the Magellan 1000i has PSC's multi-interface support built into each scanner that allows a new interface with a simple program parameter change and a cable switch.
PSC continues to introduce new imaging products, demonstrating PSC's commitment to the philosophy that "Image is Everything" in the data collection industry. PSC will demonstrate its products at the National Retail Federation Convention in New York January 15 - 18 in Booth # 1943.
