Prince William County surpasses 2 million square feet of data center space

Prince William County today announced it has surpassed 2 million square feet of data center space. This milestone was achieved by the successful completion of 20 economic development projects that provide a combined total of $3.6 billion in capital investment and 653 new highly-paid and highly-skilled jobs.

The worldwide demand to be increasingly more inter-connected, along with its prominent East Coast location has given rise to Prince William County's emergence as an important Data Center Market in the Greater Washington, DC metropolitan area. The County's ability to expedite mission-critical and time-to-market requirements also provides international and national enterprises significant competitive advantages.

Data Center providers have also come to recognize Prince William County's unique value proposition, along with its strong fiber optic network, reliable power and attractive tax incentive programs which are among the lowest in the Mid-Atlantic region. The County's abundant and favorable blend of large land parcels, multi-use zoned sites provides the opportunity to create security buffers, all within a low risk environment, which is an important consideration for Data Centers, Cyber Security andInformation Technology businesses seeking a major East Coast presence.

According to a recent study by 451 Research (News - Alert), Northern Virginia will overtake the New York metro as the biggest multi-tenant data center market in the country by the beginning of next year.

Home to a mix of federal, national enterprise and co-location, multi-tenant data center industries, Prince William County is already recognized as one of 'America's Top 25 High-Tech Hotspots', according to Progressive Policy Institute and experiences an annual on average growth of 2.8% in Hi-Tech jobs, compared to the national average at 0.7%, according to Jobs EQ.

Prince William County's International Market access also provides clients close proximity to Washington, DC's Information Technology Communications Industry, Federal R&D facilities and ease of access from two Interstates - I-66 and I-95, along with a relatively short distance drive to Dulles International Airport. In addition, commute-by-air access via business jet and regional airlines into Manassas Regional Airport brings clients directly into Innovation Park, just 2 miles away.
