Primera(R) Announces OptiVault(TM) Archival Appliance; New Device Performs Fast, Easy and Affordable Backup and Recovery of Emails and Other Critical Data

PLYMOUTH, Minn. --(Business Wire)-- Nov. 1, 2005 -- Primera Technology, Inc., the world's leading developer and manufacturer of CD/DVD duplication and printing equipment, today announced its OptiVault Archival Appliance.

OptiVault is an automated, robotically-controlled appliance that backs up and recovers email and other critical data onto robust and affordable optical media. The device operates unobtrusively in the background of Microsoft-based servers. It backs up and easily recovers a wide range of critical data, including all emails sent, received and deleted including attachments.

Because OptiVault uses non-erasable, non-rewritable DVD optical media that can be stored off-site, it provides true WORM (Write Once Read Many) compliance. This specification is critical for publicly held corporations, healthcare, brokerage, financial institutions and others who are required to meet the strict email, data and document retention requirements of Sarbanes-Oxley, SEC 17-a, HIPPA as well as other government standards for record retention.

"Failing to properly archive email and other critical data can be a costly mistake," said Mark D. Strobel, Primera Technology's Vice President of Sales and Marketing. "Small to medium-sized businesses and even departments or remote offices in larger enterprises need a reliable, cost-effective archival solution that operates automatically. Primera's new OptiVault Archival Appliance accomplishes all of this and more."

Fast and Easy Deployment

OptiVault is designed for use in a wide range of environments that may already be using a variety of primary backup methods such as tape, disc-to-disc or RAID. It interfaces to the server(s) through a single high-speed USB 2.0 port and can be optionally rack mounted in a 19" 4U configuration.

During the backup sequence, discs are automatically loaded into OptiVault's built-in, high-speed recorder. Then, each member of the backup set is printed direct-to-disc with serialization and other identifying information for fast and easy cataloguing and retrieval. Files for backup and archival can be sourced not only from the server, but also from networked client computers running Windows(R), Mac(R) OS, Linux(R), Solaris(R) and Netware(R).

The lockable front panel door keeps the media and robotics safe and secure. Two integrated blue LED light clusters illuminate the interior of the unit.

Powered by EMC(R) Dantz Retrospect(R) Software

Included with OptiVault is EMC Dantz Restrospect, Single Server Edition with Restrospect Agent for Exchange. This award-winning software installs on any Windows(R) XP/2000 PC or Windows 2000/2003 Server and provides fully-automated, hands-free backup and recovery. Using patented Progressive Backup technology, Restrospect backs up only one copy of any targeted file, even if it appears in multiple user mailboxes or directories. This not only saves space on the backup media, but makes recovery faster and more efficient.

Optional software agents are available for backup of SQL, open files and disaster recovery. The Disaster Recovery Agent recovers servers to the most recent system state down to the "bare-metal" level, saving time and effort in true disaster recovery situations.

"We are pleased that Primera has selected EMC Dantz Retrospect backup and recovery software to power its innovative backup and archive solution," said Larry Zulch, Vice President and General Manager, EMC Dantz. "Combining Primera's industry-leading robotics, burning and printing technology with EMC's award-winning Retrospect software, provides a compelling all-in-one solution at a very affordable price."

Archival-Grade Optical Media

For use with OptiVault, Primera offers a new high-quality, printable surface DVD called TuffCoat(TM) Archival Media. TuffCoat Archival Media has a 50+ year data life, extremely low error rates and a far lower cost per GB than virtually all tape-based solutions.

Pricing

The OptiVault Archival Appliance is priced at US$3495 MSRP. The optional Rack Mount Kit is US$99.95.

The OptiVault Archival Appliance is available immediately from Primera's Authorized Resellers and Distributors in more than 80 countries.
