President Sisi Urges Prompt Accomplishment of Energy Projects


(AllAfrica Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) President Abdel Fattah El Sisi held Thursday two meetings with Communication and Information Technology (CIT) Minister Atef Helmy, as well as Electricity and Renewable Energy Minister Mohamed Shaker, Presidential Spokesman Alaa Yousef said.



The president reviewed with Helmy the CIT sector's strategy, which aims at fulfilling the aspirations and ambitions of the Egyptian society in terms of increasing the national income, luring investments, providing data and information, combating corruption, and enhancing transparency.

This in addition to boosting the services extended to people with special needs and the marginalized categories, along with upgrading government services through state-of-the art technology.


Spokesman Yussef said that the president gave directives to accelerate the establishment of the national agency for digital community and finding up an integrated mechanism to achieve economic and social development.

According to the spokesman, the president stressed the importance of designing and making electronics and software to create more job opportunities for youths.

The president focused on the industry and designing of electronics and software in order to create more jobs and contribute to increasing the gross domestic product (GDP), besides working for amending the communications and information technology-related laws.

The minister of communications and information technology, on his part, affirmed the importance of the role played by the IT sector in building the modern state and realize sustainable economic and social development, according to the spokesman.

President Sisi stressed the necessity of counting on the super speed internet, as well as improving the level of services currently extended to the citizens in this domain.

He also underlined the need to pay attention to training and preparing the Egyptian youth in the field of communications and IT in order to avail the specialized cadres in this vital domain.

The president called for counting on sophisticated technology means in implementing the new mega projects, foremost among which the new Suez Canal project, developing the canal corridor, as well as depending on the super speed internet and working out the necessary infrastructure for this. Sisi further added that the health sector should be given priority among the sectors to be electronically modernized.

The spokesman said that the president's meeting with the minister of electricity reviewed the ministry's various axes for fulfilling the electric energy needs, where Minister Shaker briefed the president on the capacities that could be added through implementing the maintenance programs and upping the efficiency of the standing stations, along with the capacities to be added through new projects to be accomplished before Summer 2015.

The spokesman added that the president gave directives to adopt a host of measures for increasing the generation of electric power, rationalizing consumption and facing the incidents of stealing electricity current.

The minister of electricity also reviewed projects related to the offering of power-saving lamps (LED bulbs) as well as the ongoing negotiations with a number of major companies which have proposed projects for generating electricity especially through counting on renewable energy sources.
