Prattville police searching for cell phone snatcher [Montgomery Advertiser, Ala.]

(Montgomery Advertiser (AL) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Sept. 30--The Prattville Police Department is currently searching for an unknown man suspected of stealing a woman's phone from a business check-out line.

Police are asking the public's help in identifying the suspect, captured by the business' surveillance system.

The man in the video is accused of stealing a $700 cell phone after the victim placed her phone down and left the store after using the self-check out line, according to Tony Garrett, director of CrimeStoppers.

Once she realized her phone was missing, she went back to the register to find it, Garrett said.

"Video captured an unknown male, wearing a suit, pick the phone up and then walk away with it. The victim advised that when she went back, she spoke with a male fitting the suspect's description," Garrett said.

The victim said the man told her a woman had stolen her phone and he would walk to the parking lot to find her. He never returned, Garrett said.

If you can identify or know the whereabouts of this individual, please call the police immediately or Crime Stoppers at 215-STOP.

CrimeStopper provides tips in case your cell phone is stolen 1.Keep details. Make a record of all your phone information and keep this in a safe place. (Model and Serial number) 2. Add a Security Mark. (Mark battery, case, etc.) Mark with cell phone number or Driver's License to make it easily identifiable. Alternate email may be used in case it's lost and someone wants to return it.

3.Use Security lock code, or PIN feature to lock phone.

4.Register your phone with your network operator. If your phone is stolen, report the loss to them immediately. Using your IMEI number, they may be able to block your handset and account details. They may even be able to prevent anyone from using your phone across any network, even if the SIM card is changed.

5.Write down your last calls with date and time and ask for confirmation that your phone has been disabled. This may help in case fraudulent charges show up on your account by the criminal.

6.Install anti phone theft software (Family locate services) Software locates your phone when lost.

7.

Try not to advertise. Keep it concealed unless in use.
