Popular Digitally Programmable Potentiometer (DPP(TM)) Now Available in Ultra-Small 2 x 2.5mm TDFN Package from Catalyst Semiconductor

SANTA CLARA, Calif. --(Business Wire)-- Catalyst Semiconductor, Inc. (NASDAQ:CATS) a supplier of analog, mixed-signal and non-volatile memory semiconductors, today announced the availability of its popular CAT5114 Digitally Programmable Potentiometer(TM) in an 8-lead 2 x 2.5mm TDFN package, making it the world's smallest non-volatile digital potentiometer. This tiny form factor helps designers further compress board space in today's ever-shrinking portable products which currently use digital potentiometers in larger packages. The CAT5114 in 2 x 2.5mm TDFN can also be used to replace mechanical potentiometers and trimpots in applications including LCD screen adjustment; tamper-proof product calibration; contrast, brightness and volume control; gain adjustment; motor control and feedback systems.

The CAT5114 digital potentiometer is a pin-for-pin replacement for Intersil's X9315, but offers the added choice of the very small 2 x 2.5 TDFN package. The CAT5114 is also functionally equivalent to Intersil's X93154 50k ohm digital potentiometer, with additional 10k ohm and 100 k ohm end-to-end resistance values and a wider supply voltage range (2.5V to 6V).

The tiny CAT5114 is a 32-tap digital potentiometer featuring a user-friendly up/down control interface and non-volatile memory, which retains the wiper setting on system power-down and reinstates the setting when power is returned. The wiper can be adjusted to test new system values without affecting the stored setting.

Product Features

-- 32-position linear taper potentiometer

-- Packaging: 2 x 2.5mm TDFN 8-lead (TDFN 2 x 3mm, TSSOP, SOIC, MSOP, PDIP also available)

-- Resistance values: 10k ohm, 50k ohm, 100k ohm

-- Non-volatile EEPROM wiper storage

-- Increment up/down serial interface

-- Single supply operation: 2.5V - 6V
