Police search for suspects in home invasion

RICHMOND, Jul 17, 2010 (Richmond Register - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Richmond police are searching for two men who burst into a Turpin Drive apartment Thursday morning armed with weapons and robbed the residents.

Chief Larry Brock said police are searching for two white men who robbed the residents of an apartment in the 400 block of Turpin Drive around 3:20 a.m. Thursday.

The residents of the apartment told police that after answering a knock on the door, the men rushed in and demanded money.

One of the suspects was armed with what Brock described as a sawed-off shotgun while the other had a wooden club. Both were wearing masks which partially obscured their faces.

Brock said two of the residents reported being struck in the head and were treated at Pattie A. Clay Regional Medical Center for minor injuries, although police are not sure whether they were struck with the club or the gun.

The robbers took three cellular phones, two packs of cigarettes and $80 from the seven occupants of the apartment before fleeing on foot, Brock said.

Stolen wheels An employee of a Richmond car dealership reported a theft from the business overnight Wednesday, but the thief did not take a car, Brock said.

An employee at Mann Chrysler, on the Eastern Bypass, reported to police that a set of 22-inch wheels and tires had been stolen from a Dodge Charger parked at the dealership overnight, Brock said.

The vehicle was left sitting on concrete blocks after the wheels were taken, Brock said. The wheels and tires were valued at $1,500.

Other crimes --A Stihl weed trimmer valued at $160 was reported stolen Wednesday from a home in the 300 block of Timothy Way.

The victim said the trimmer was taken from an open garage at the home during the morning, Brock said.

--A Nintendo DS portable video game system and a Super Mario Bros. game were reported stolen Wednesday from an apartment in the 700 block of N. Third Street. The items had been taken in the two days prior to the report, Brock said.

--The resident of an apartment in the 700 block of Marietha Drive reported Wednesday that $185 in jewelry had been taken overnight.

Brock said four young ladies' rings were taken, and the resident identified a visitor to the apartment as a suspect.

Anyone with information about these crimes is asked to call the Richmond Police Department at 623-1162 or 623-8911.
