Police investigate 2 armed robberies at Milford hotels

MILFORD, Feb 14, 2012 (New Haven Register - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Police are investigating armed robberies that occurred at two local hotels in recent days.

The first happened at 7:19 p.m. Saturday; police received a report of an armed robbery that happened at the Red Roof Inn at 10 Rowe Ave. A man entered the business brandishing a knife, walked behind the counter and took an undisclosed amount of money from the cash register, according to police.


The second incident happened Monday at 10:15 p.m. Police received a complaint of an attempted armed robbery at the Milford Lodge at 278 Old Gate Lane. A man entered the lodge displaying a knife, repeatedly demanded money from an employee, and fled the scene after trying unsuccessfully to climb over the counter, police said.

No one was injured in either incident, police said.


The description of the suspect in both cases is very similar, according to police, who described him as a black male, 5 feet 8 inches to 5 feet 10 inches tall, 30 to 40 years old, with a thin build and a goatee with a "distinguished white mark." He was described as wearing a dark knit hat with a logo on the front of it.

Police in Milford and West Haven are comparing the recent incidents with an armed robbery that happened Feb. 5 at the Hampton Inn in West Haven.
