Polaris Wireless Chooses Radisys' ATCA Platform to Enhance Wireless Location Systems

Feb 13, 2012 (Close-Up Media via COMTEX) -- Radisys Corp., a provider of embedded wireless infrastructure solutions, and Polaris Wireless, a provider of software-based wireless location solutions, announced that Polaris Wireless is leveraging Radisys' AdvancedTCA (ATCA) platform solution for OmniLocate, its universal location platform.

According to a release, for public safety applications, an effective emergency response network must be deployed in record time and provide a reliable path for performance upgradability. Polaris Wireless selected Radisys' ATCA platform to improve scalability and upgradability of its OmniLocate platform for emergency call management (E911) and security applications. The company was able to convert to the Radisys x86 solution in less than six months and reduce its costs significantly.

In addition, Polaris Wireless was able to enhance OmniLocate performance threefold using the latest processor technology, enabling valuable time-to-market and cost savings. Radisys' complete platform solution and support for Linux made this rapid transition possible.

"The Radisys application-ready ATCA platform was the best fit for Polaris Wireless because it minimized the system integration and validation on our end, giving us the fastest time-to-market and lowest cost for application development," said Zaheer Allam, Senior Vice President of Telecom Products and Operations, Polaris Wireless. "Furthermore, by leveraging this common platform, we are poised to leverage the roadmap to improving our customers' OPEX and CAPEX in addition to introducing new products and revenue streams." With the Radisys blade server approach, Polaris Wireless can upgrade OmniLocate platform performance based on the Intel roadmap by simply swapping blades-allowing development of new products with minimal investment with a future proof platform.

"Many of our customers are finding themselves constantly pushing the limits of their processing capabilities with their existing solutions and they need a complete and ready solution to cope with increased capacity or functionality," said Venkataraman Prasannan, general manager, ATCA, Radisys. "The Radisys ATCA platform allows our customers, such as Polaris Wireless, to reduce their overall R&D effort required and leverage the investments in their platform. Radisys, with its broad portfolio of ATCA, Trillium software and Media Servers, enables customers to extend their market opportunities as well as minimize time to market with applications in LTE EPC, Public Safety, Conferencing and more."
